Chutney is a very versatile side condiment which was mostly famous on an Indian plate. But now-a-days you see the use of Chutney in multiple ways. Of course on an Indian plate but these little condiments full of flavour acts as a great sandwich spread too and they make lovely edible gifts too. You can be flexible and use the fruits of your choice.

This recipe needs very few ingredients and very little time too.

Here is what you will need:

  • 2 Apples, cored, peeled and cut into small cubes
  • red plums, seeded and chopped
  • 1 ripe fig, chopped
  •  a small dash of grated ginger
  • salt to taste
  • few shakes of black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp of Cinnamon powder
  • a few grates of Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp of butter or ghee
  •  tbsp of jaggery or dark brown sugar

Method:

  1. Heat the Ghee in a non stick pan, and when its hot add the ginger to it and stir it well.
  2. Now add the apples and all the dried spices and mix them well, cook stirring the apples on a medium to high heat for about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Now add the fig and the plums, mix it all well. Cook it covered on low heat for another 4-5 minutes,
  4. Add the jaggery and let it melt and keep stirring until the water evaporates.
  5. Close the heat. Serve it either with an Indian meal or also on a dark brown bread with a cream cheese spread on it. This Chutney also makes a great gift in small Maison Jars.
